23. Planning to Have a Family<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

My job appeared to be on a solid ground,
<\/span><\/span>So thinking of a family was a thing I should do.
<\/span>I was almost a forty-year-old man,
<\/span>And if I waited too long my sperms would get weak and old.<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking for a wife is not an easy task.
<\/span><\/span>Wanting a young wife, she would tell me no thanks.
<\/span>For an older one who is thirty something,
<\/span>The ones with too many summers, I will have to pass.<\/span><\/p>\n

But suddenly fate ushered me onto a new path,
<\/span><\/span>I could avoid a watermelon peel, I stepped on a coconut shell.
<\/span>One day I saw the woman of my fate
<\/span>Not knowing only months later, she became my mate.<\/span><\/p>\n

She had a pretty face, good looking,
<\/span><\/span>Wearing tight pants and long black hair, smiling.
<\/span>I waited for her to cross the street;
<\/span>She told me she came to my office every week.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI submitted my application here for a job,\u201d she said.
<\/span><\/span>Classroom Assistant, waiting for them to call.
<\/span>She smiled, asking if I remembered her.
<\/font>\u201cA Khmer Classroom Assistant candidate,\u201d she was.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She said, \u201cYou and another American, two of you
<\/span><\/span>Interviewed many candidates in a room.
<\/span>Seeing you, I thought you looked handsome,
<\/span>Looking like the man I met in the Thailand refugee camps.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAre you Cambodian?\u201d I asked,
<\/font>\u201cAre you Chinese?\u201d she asked. That\u2019s how we met.
<\/font>\u201cNo I\u2019m Vietnamese,
<\/span><\/span>Maybe my eyes makes me resemble a Chinese man\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s my business card,
<\/span><\/span>Call me whenever you want to see me.\u201d
<\/span>I wanted to impress her \u2013 a mistake or a game of luck?
<\/span>The next day she called and I was stuck.<\/span><\/p>\n

I invited her to my office,
<\/span><\/span>Wanting to know her better.
<\/span>After our first meeting, we said let\u2019s meet again,
<\/span>So we could talk more about our feelings.
