14. The Ravages of a Civil War<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The most tragic fate we mourned for those young men
<\/span><\/span>Who were born only to die defending their leaders.
<\/span>Not knowing they were born North, only sent to South to die,
<\/span>Or losing limbs, eyesight, being handicapped for life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The saddest fate was for those Northern young men
<\/span><\/span>Who were born in the North but rushed to the South.
<\/span>Sure found their corpses scattered in the jungles
<\/span>Because they were condemned to piggyback Uncle H\u1ed3.<\/span><\/p>\n

The more sorrowful fate for those young men,
<\/span><\/span>Who were born fighting a war between brothers.
<\/span>Now the country has been at peace for forty years,
<\/span>Lucky for those who were born after those deadliest years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Living through a cycle of ebb and flow,
<\/span><\/span>What you witnessed made you sick to your stomach (Kieu)
<\/span>Independence has been forty years long,
<\/span>Why are the Vietnamese leaders still in bed with the Red China?<\/span><\/p>\n

Red China has occupied our islands,
<\/span><\/span>And you are still snoring in your fucking sleep.
<\/span>Wake up, Vietnamese leaders!
<\/span>Let’s arm our people with the resolve to defend our borders.<\/span><\/p>\n

You were ignorant before, we couldn’t undo
<\/span><\/span>For you did not know the true colors of Lenin and Uncle H\u1ed3.
<\/span>But now the whole world knows the truth about them,
<\/span>Abandon at once your policy of harassing your people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vietnamese people are known for their valor;
<\/span><\/span>We would rise up to meet all challenges.
<\/span>Defeating Chinese, Frenchmen, and sending home Americans,
<\/span>But don\u2019t be stupid fighting your own brothers and sisters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Millions of Vietnamese people like me,
<\/span><\/span>Wishing democracy would prevail so I could come home.
<\/span>Losing our parents, we all do
<\/span>But losing our country to China, we’ll be their buffaloes forever.
