2. The Day We Set Sail to Subic Bay<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Captain Ph\u1ea1m \u0110\u00ecnh San shouted out his order:
<\/span>\u201cAll hands on deck! Take her to the open sea.\u201d
<\/span><\/span>It\u2019s all finished! The Republic of South Vietnam.
<\/span>Shed no more tears for our 20 years of civil war.<\/span><\/p>

The U.S. Navy\u2019s 7<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> Fleet shadowing us offshore,
<\/span><\/span>Perhaps, they expected to see our ships heading out.
<\/span>Because HQ-11 had made prior contact with a U.S warship,
<\/span>Our ship was designated the vessel for leading the exodus.<\/span><\/p>

Captain San of HQ-11 was the lead officer of the convoy,
<\/span><\/span>To relay all instructions while en route to Subic Bay.
<\/span>The naval convoy rescued hundreds of fishing boats.
<\/span>The sea was calm as we picked up more people fleeing.<\/span><\/p>

After several days, the island was visible on the horizon;
<\/span><\/span>The naval convoy stopped, ready to drop anchor.
<\/span>Republic of South Vietnam’s flags must be removed.
<\/span>Soldiers in uniform had to re-dress in civilian clothes.<\/span><\/p>

Heavy munitions and weapons of all sorts,
<\/span><\/span>Must be thrown overboard before entering port.
<\/span>One by one, each ship was allowed to dock.
<\/span>People were ordered to disembark like herding flocks.<\/span><\/p>

As people walked toward the Subic Bay’s entrance,
<\/span><\/span>Each person was given a new set of clothes
<\/span>And directed to the makeshift shower stalls nearby.
<\/span>Cleansing the dirt of war to begin their new life.<\/span><\/p>

All the lingering hostility the shower washed off.
<\/span><\/span>A North-South civil war that tore our country apart.
<\/span>Rancor and animosity accumulated in four directions,
